Is Bluegrass Senior Living an Assisted Living Community or a Personal Care Community?

Bluegrass Senior Living is a Personal Care Community licensed by the Office of Inspector General, while assisted living communities are certified (not licensed) by the Kentucky Department for Aging and Independent Living.

Bluegrass Senior Living is required to meet or exceed the Kentucky Administrative Regulations to maintain licensure as a Personal Care Home.

What’s the difference between Assisted Living and Personal Care?

To an outside observer, it wouldn’t appear that assisted living and personal care are that different, but that would be incorrect. As a personal care community, Bluegrass Senior Living uses a medical model for its daily interaction with residents. Assisted living uses a social model. For example, in assisted living communities a staff member will remind a resident to take their medication, but at Bluegrass Senior Living a staff member will assist or administer the medication as necessary and document it.

Bluegrass Senior Living Model of Care

The major difference between assisted living and personal care is the medical model of care that you may never see. We hope you enjoy the peace of mind that comes from knowing licensed nurses are on-site 24 hours a day. Residents may receive assistance with bathing, grooming and dressing, medication management (including diabetes management and insulin shot injection) and much more.

Nurse Care on Call

Assisted Living doesn't provide nursing care while personal care does allow this nurse to assist with a residentA pendant response system will summon help at any time of the day or night. When an emergency happens, having a nurse on site is something many seniors – and their families – desire for peace of mind.

Memory Care and Short Stay

Assisted living may not be able to meet the requirements of residents with memory care challenges. Bluegrass Senior Living’s personal care model can provide special care for residents with memory care. Visit our Memory Care page to learn more.

Because we can provide medical support, Bluegrass Senior Living is ideal for recovery short stays while you heal.  To learn more, visit our Short Stay page.

Does Personal Care Feel Like a Hospital?

Personal Care Room

While the main difference between assisted living and personal care communities is the medical model, the social and community aspects of care are core to our care model. Bluegrass Senior Living invites residents to live life on their own terms in a comfortable setting that feels like home.

Amenities such as restaurant-style dining, housekeeping, laundry services, transportation, and maintenance-free apartments allow residents the freedom to enjoy an active and independent lifestyle.
